David will assume the role on 26 July, taking over from Interim CEO Matthew Hunt who will take up the newly-created role of Chief Strategy Officer, Deputy CEO.

David’s expertise delivering high profile projects, together with his background taking organisations through periods of transitional change, place him in an ideal position to lead Pay.UK. Most recently he was Chief Operating Officer leading a transformation strategy at the Government’s Test, Trace and Containment operation, and he has also worked across the insurance sector, both in the UK and internationally, including esure and RSA Insurance.
Pay.UK is an organisation that is fundamental to the day-to-day lives of millions of people in the UK. Making payments faster, safer and easier in an increasingly digital world is our priority and as the architects of the UK’s payment system, working with the team, we will continue to provide the resilience and innovation consumers and businesses need every day.
David Pitt, incoming CEO, Pay.UK
The newly-created Chief Strategy Officer, Deputy CEO will work closely with the CEO and the Board to define and execute Pay.UK’s long-term vision to power the UK economy as a preferred platform for retail payments strategy.
I am very proud of the work we have done this year. We have seamlessly delivered our part of the UK’s critical national infrastructure during the pandemic, supported the Government with its Covid-19 response, as well as launching important new standards and services for customers, such as Confirmation of Payee and Request to Pay. There is a lot more to do and I am looking forward to supporting David in making further progress. The new Chief Strategy Officer, Deputy CEO role will enable me to continue working with all of our stakeholders to ensure Pay.UK can drive better outcomes for retail payments users.I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their dedication and commitment during my time as Interim CEO.
